Her new single ‘Problem’ ft Iggy Azalea was released last
night so I’m going to go through the evolution of Ariana Grande, from
Nickelodeon to the Superstar she’s becoming.
Before Yours Truly before that red hair, Ariana Grande was
just a girl from Boca with dreams of becoming a star. When she was just 8 she sang the National Anthem in front of thousands. She also performed in musical
theatre productions and in her spare time she’d upload videos of her covering
some of the biggest songs on YouTube resulting in growing a stable, loyal
fanbase now known as Arianators. Even back then we all knew Osnapitzari was
going places.
Then she was offered that one particular role, her big break
in the industry. With bright red hair, a bubbly naive personality and a cutesy
(admittedly annoying) distinctive voice, it was no wonder Cat Valentine was the
most loved character in Victorious. She gave light relief in every episode with
her one liners and bizarre antics and although Tori was the main character, Cat
evidently was the star of the show. So much so, when Victorious ended, Ariana
has continued to do a spin-off with iCarly character Sam Puckett, Jeanette
McCurdy.
Not forgetting her incredible voice, Ariana who is
constantly compared to Maria Carey with her whistle tones and massive vocal
range, had spent years writing and preparing her debut album Yours Truly.
Originally her sound was portrayed as bubblegum pop with her tracks, Pink
Champagne and Put Your Hearts Up whilst sporting baby pink dresses but as the
years went on, Ariana didn’t want that. She wanted to be more true to herself
creating music she liked not just what she thought would sell. After signing to
Scooter Braun, her image began to transform to match her voice; angelic,
replacing her red hair with ombre locks and what is now known as her signature hairstyle;
half up half down and her outfits being a blast from the past; old fashioned and sophisticated.
Her first single ‘The Way’ featuring Mac Miller was a
perfect debut for her as it stormed the charts in numerous countries (including
Billboard) and created an extremely high expectation for her future records.
Following the hype, she finally released her album which of course, went
No.1 in the Billboard charts and over 30 other countries, including top 10 in the
UK. It also included major collabs with Mika, Big
Sean and even Nathan from The Wanted. What a massive year 2013 was for her.
Since, she has continued Sam & Cat, travelled the world
promoting, had a brief relationship and duet with Nathan Sykes, performed for The President at The White House and is now in
process of her second album. I spy her sexing up her look, judging by her ‘Problem’
promo pics and recent appearances so I can only guess her album will reflect
this AND I CAN’T WAIT.
Good luck with everything, Ari x
